Asthma health
Dr. Charles Clemens, medical chief of staff at the Student Health Center, said vaccinations would also be available at the facility during flu season, which typically runs from November to February.
Vaccinations at the Student Health Center cost about $20, Clemens said.
Clemens said SIUC medical professionals follow the CDC in recommending everyone get vaccinated, especially those in group housing or dormitories.
'They're in large gatherings of people where it is likely to share germs,' Clemens said. 'We're recommending that all college students get a flu vaccine.'
Clemens said people with ongoing medical problems such as asthma or diabetes are encouraged especially to get vaccinated because they are at a higher risk of contracting the flu and having it turn into a more serious problem such as pneumonia.
Clemens said serious risks of the vaccination are rare and the vaccination would not cause the flu itself.
'That's a myth that a lot of people worry about that you'll get the flu (from the vaccine),' Clemens said.
Mike Brewer, a building service sub foreman in the Physical Plant, said he hardly even felt the flu shot. Brewer said he normally gets vaccinated every year and so does his family
Over the next four years, we expect the value of systemic drugs delivered via inhalation to increase at an average annual rate of thirty-three percent. During the same period, inhaled drugs for upper respiratory conditions including asthma, and COPD will increase at a rate of between eight and nine percent. Systemic inhaled drugs will represent just under nine percent of all inhaled drugs worldwide in 2011, up from less than five percent in 2007.
