Asthma herbal treatment
ichael Cowan's Penny- Farthing Challenge rolled into town yesterday after more than 940 kilometres and nine days in the hot seat.
Riding from Newcastle to Orange to raise awareness and money for the Asthma Foundation, Michael brought a smile to the face of the children at Carenne School.
He said he was delighted to help raise awareness of the foundation and tell a little bit about his own story. 'I have lived with asthma for 32 years,' he said
Supt. of Schools Kristine Nash said officials became concerned after a recent outbreak of mold at the Hanover Middle School was detected. 'It was found in ceiling tiles,' said Nash on Tuesday. 'It was not airborne and did not pose a health risk.'
According to www.mass.gov, large amounts of mold have been known to trigger allergy attacks in some people, and some who're allergic to mold can develop asthma as a result of continued exposure.
Nash said the schools haven't adopted a formal policy on the food prohibition - which would have to be supported by the school committee - but they do want to create a safer environment for students by limiting food in classrooms. '[That is a] good practice for health reasons, in respect to eliminating pests, ants and mold,' Nash said.
Nash said the schools are asking students to save all food for lunchtime. Bringing water to class is fine, but anything that could spill and cause mold to grow is out of the question. 'Mold needs two things to grow
