One ad echoes attacks from Obama's campaign and other Democrats on a McCain plan that would tax health care benefits but give workers a tax credit that would offset the tax costs for most workers. McCain says that idea will aid most workers, but critics say it will raise costs for employers and workers.
The ad features Nicole Lowe, a worker at Chrysler's Warren Truck plant, whose son has asthma.
The second ad spotlights Joel Blatchford, a pipefitter at General Motors Corp.'s Lake Orion plant, who says McCain's economic plans are 'just like (President) Bush' and declares, 'McCain doesn't get it.'
Gettelfinger said the union already has sent two direct-mail pieces to its active and retired members, with plans for a third. The union claims just under 1 million members. The mailers will focus on jobs, health care and social security, Gettelfinger said.
The UAW campaign also will include radio and Internet ads, Gettelfinger said
