Treatment for asthma
Finally, storing hand sanitizer in your console (and using it liberally) is a simple way to keep those germs at bay. Mold can make you sick, too The Facts: Your car may be harboring mega-amounts of harmful mold, thanks to a faulty air conditioning system or damp interiors from leaks and spills. High amounts of mold may trigger headaches, nausea and, in some cases, asthma.
The Fix: First, do a quick scent check to determine if youve got a mold problem: Smell something funky, like a mix of mildew or dirty socks? Then its time to do damage control. Call your mechanic or dealership to have your AC system checked out (and, if necessary, serviced). Or if a spill is the culprit, take your car to be professionally cleaned or do all you can to get the interior as dry as possible the longer it stays damp, the more mold youll have. Scary side-effects of that new car smell The Facts: Thanks to a mix of scary chemicals like arsenic and formaldehyde, inhaling the fumes from your new car can be harmful to your health, especially if you have environmental allergies. The Fix: Do your research. If youre buying a new car, go to Healthycar.org to find out if its make and model may contain potentially toxic chemicals
Previously, agency officials had said residents could move out, but depending on the amount of assistance they had received, they might have to pay out of pocket. About 100 residents packed into a room at Westdale Mall Friday night to hear FEMA officials and health experts address concerns over formaldehyde issues. 'I have no doubt these are the safest homes in the United States,' said Bill Vogel, FEMA federal coordinating officer. He said the 558 homes underwent rigorous testing before coming to Iowa and all fell under the state's allowable formaldehyde level of 0.04 parts per million. However, he added FEMA will provide retesting if requested. During Friday's meeting, some flood victims expressed concerns about bronchitis, asthma or other health conditions and were worried about staying in the FEMA homes. Vogel noted that no residents had called FEMA with those concerns until after a report by Cedar Rapids TV station KGAN found high levels of formaldehyde in 20 trailers. FEMA said retesting will start in about two weeks by a certified company. Among residents who expressed health concerns was 23-year-old Jessica Barnard. She said she, her husband and two children are sick and would like to move from their FEMA home
