Often called a silent killer, CO is an invisible, odorless, colorless gas created when fuels, such as gasoline, wood, coal, natural gas, propane, oil and methane, burn incompletely.
CO enters the body through breathing. CO poisoning can be confused with flu symptoms, food poisoning and other ill- nesses. Some symptoms include shortness of breath, nausea, dizziness, light headedness or headaches.
Everyone is at risk for CO poisoning, but infants, pregnant women and people with physical conditions that limit their ability to use oxygen, such as emphysema, asthma or heart disease, can be more severely affected by low concentrations of CO than healthy adults. High levels of CO can be fatal for anyone, causing death within minutes.
The goal of the Manchester Volunteer Fire Company is to reduce the number of carbon monoxide incidents in Manchester Township and discourage anyone from using the range or oven to heat their home

NAPLES Red tide is back along Collier County beaches at levels that could cause respiratory irritation and fish kills, according to a report this afternoon from county beach monitors.
Samples taken Monday show red tide, a bloom of toxic microscopic algae, at low levels at Barefoot Beach and at very low levels at Clam Pass and south Marco Beach, the report shows.
Monitors say they have not received reports of respiratory irritation or fish kills but that people with chronic respiratory illnesses such as emphysema or asthma should avoid going to the beach because it could aggravate their symptoms.
Offshore winds are predicted through Friday, which should help minimize the effects of the red tide. More samples will be taken Thursday.
National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration satellite images show an area of elevated chlorophyll, a sign of algae blooms, 22 miles west of Wiggins Pass and extending northward into Sarasota County.
Red tide updates are available by calling 239-252-2591 or, by going to http://mote.org/beaches for real-time beach reports. The Web site is updated twice a day, seven days a week
