Some say it's because parents are more aware and quicker to have their children checked out, while others point to the dramatic rise in peanut allergies.

Food allergies may be tied to other health problems. Researchers found that children with food allergies were more likely to have asthma, eczema and respiratory problems.
The CDC says, only a few items account for nearly all food allergies. Those items are milk, eggs, peanuts, other nuts, fish, shellfish, soy, and wheat.
Although, most kids outgrow allergies as they get older, research shows it now takes even longer for them to outgrow egg and milk allergies.

The Bay Area Air Quality Management District has committed $10 million to clean up the dirty trucks, said Jack Broadbent, air district's executive officer. But the state infrastructure bond money will be lost if the retrofits aren't completed by July 1, 2009, the day the Air Resources Board's new truck rule to reduce diesel emissions becomes law, he warned.
West Oakland has the worst air pollution in the entire San Francisco Bay Area with diesel emissions three times higher than the region as a whole, as measured by the Air Resources Board, he said. The port's foot-dragging on cleaning up diesel pollution from dirty trucks has endangered the health of the surrounding low-income, minority community which has spiraling rates of childhood asthma, lung cancer, and other respiratory illnesses, he told the port board.
Broadbent told The Cunningham Report that the air district would like Oakland to adopt a comprehensive clean ports program like those implemented by the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach this month. However, if the port fails to act in time and loses the state bond money, the air district may have to resort to other regulatory tools to remove old, dirty trucks from the roads.
