heSouthern understands that the 29-year-old has pleaded his innocence of any wrongdoing, claiming that his body produces a higher level of testosterone than normal and has asked for a B sample to be tested.The Scottish Rugby Union has launched an investigation, but in the meantime, Macleod who has been capped 21 times has been suspended from training and playing with both his pro team, Llanelli Scarlets, and the Scotland international squad.Scarlets chief executive Stuart Gallacher said in a statement: 'The Scottish Rugby Union has informed us that a urine test sample provided by Scarlets player Scott Macleod has shown an irregularity.'As standard procedure, while this irregularity is being investigated further, Scott Macleod will not be playing or training with the Scarlets until the matter has been resolved.'The player and the Scarlets management, along with the Scottish Rugby Union, hope to conclude this matter as soon as possible.'We will assist the player and co-operate fully with the Scottish Rugby Union while the inquiry takes place.'It is the second time the popular forward has failed a doping test. He gave a positive sample in January, although he was later cleared of any wrongdoing.On that occasion, a new asthma medicine that contained steroids was found to be the cause of the positive test, and Macleod was acquitted. Although few details of the current case have been released, it is also believed that the testosterone problem was originally identified at the time of the asthma test.Macleod should face a hearing within the next two weeks. If his B test produces the same result as the original test he will then be asked to prove to a judicial committee that his body does produce a higher level of testosterone than average.Macleod's current predicament is by no means unique. In the past two years there have been 21 cases of athletes in the UK reporting elevated levels of the hormone. All but one of these cases was dismissed, however, after the athletes established reasons for the naturally high levels
